That was a most odd experience on the Men's Shed 2020 iMac using Vuescan. The app was failing to reliably detect individual objects. If I put 4 photos down on the scanner bed, in most cases it would only detect two of them, sometimes only one.
So I finished that first batch of 25 pics one-by-one. Even so, I had to force-quit the app several times as it got hung up on a scanning loop, outputting pics previously scanned while ignoring those detected with the preview scan.
The force-quit keystroke combination of Command-Option-Escape revealed two instances of the Finder . Quitting either one forced both instances to quit before reappearing.
Restart time. Checked the force-quit options, Finder is only there once.
Tried four pics on Vuescan again. Worked perfectly before announcing an update was available.
The developers (Hamrick Software) seem to issue new versions at the rate of one per month on average so I installed the new version. No discernible difference, no problems with individual photo detection.
I timed the process of scanning four photos at 600 dpi. From loading the scanner to removing the pics after being scanned took two minutes, the actual scan was 20 seconds per photo, which is at least double the rate of the scanner’s “proper” software.

On that WordPress issue: with Safari, I can select not to block tracking for that website. I found that it allowed me in on the first attempt.

I’ll try regularly over time & see whether the setting sticks.

Extremely SICK of seeing this every time I try to log in to the Mac User Group’s WordPress website: "Log In Error: Cookies are blocked or not supported by your browser. You must enable cookies to use WordPress.”

Of course, cookies ARE enabled.

Stupid website only allows me in on the SECOND attempt.

Everyone's excited that 2020 is ending…

…but forget that the year after 2021 is 2020 too

A man went to his dentist because he feels something wrong in his mouth. The dentist examines him and says, "That new upper plate I put in for you six months ago is eroding. What have you been eating?"

The man replies, "all I can think of is that about four months ago my wife made some asparagus and put some stuff on it that was delicious…Hollandaise sauce. I loved it so much I now put it on everything -- meat, toast, fish, vegetables.

"Well," says the dentist, "that's probably the problem. Hollandaise sauce is made with lots of lemon juice, which is highly corrosive. It's eaten away your upper plate. I'll make you a new plate, and this time use chrome."

"Why chrome?" asks the patient.

To which the dentist replies, "It's simple. Everyone knows that there's no plate like chrome for the Hollandaise!"

Countdown: in 12 days Mum will commence 2 weeks of respite care at an aged care facility, thereafter she becomes a permanent resident. My youngest sister has medical & financial Power of Attorney & estimates the best way to come up with the difference between available bank balance & care centre costs will be to sell some of her shares.

Other possibilities are to clean out her house to either rent it out or to sell it. She has too many assets to qualify for the aged pension but at least she does get a war-widows’ pension from the Veterans Affairs department.

I’ve been busily scanning the more important of her photos, thus far I’ve scanned 405 pics totalling 1.9 GB.

Thus far I reckon I’ve scanned about a GB of photos onto a couple of computers. I’m very impressed with the performance of the Canon LiDE 400 scanner using Vuescan app for the work.
Just for shits & giggles I tried that combo with the 2008 pre-Unibody MacBook Pro & was amazed it worked so well. Almost like all the computer did was supply power to the scanner & a destination for the files. Shows the power & capability of a modern scanner with a decent scanning app.

I found this for you: https://magpi.raspberrypi.org/articles/group-test-best-raspberry-pi-4-thermal-cases-tested-and-ranked
The tests conclude the Argon One to be the most effective of the devices tried.

How about the Rankine Temperature scale? Like the Kelvin scale zero Rankine equals absolute zero but a degree Rankine equates to a Fahrenheit degree while a Kelvin degree equates to a Celsius degree. (-459.67ºF = 0 R)

Because they work & are a handy size? My old one provides the Men’s Shed group with a contact phone number & cheaper/more reliable internet than available from a pocket 4G wifi router.
