Yesterday I collected a small box of mixed vegetables from a non-profit produce market operator. You can get four different sized boxes from small ($20); medium ($30); large ($40) or extra large ($60). You have no say in the contents other than choosing fruit & veg; veg-only or fruit-only. They also have free-range eggs.
I chose vegetables-only, here’s what was in it: carrots, corn, capsicum, turnip, potatoes, sweet potato, cucumber, tomato, leek, onion, parsnip, zucchinis, eggplant, cauliflower & cabbage. I also added a dozen 50 gram eggs.
The photo shows all but the eggs, they’re hiding under the cabbage & cauliflower. All produce is top quality, no 2nd-grade supermarket rejects here. Later today I’ll be making a big pot of vegetable soup, once I get some celery to add to the mix.
Was chatting with a guy in the changerooms after my exercise routine at the leisure centre pool earlier today. He said “did you ever work for Telstra*?”
I replied in the affirmative. I looked closer & recognised him as one who’d been in the same workgroup as myself for 10 years from 1989.

Not so foolish after all: ‘fool’s gold’ contains a newly discovered type of real gold.
@variablepulserate It was a small satellite suburb, at the end of the electrified rail line. Trains further east were regional service or freight only, running diesels. People kept moving here as housing was cheaper than in areas closer to their workplaces.
@variablepulserate When I moved here 21 years ago, its population was barely 8,000. Now it’s closer to 80,000.
There was an incident involving speed in which a brown fox overtook a lazy dog.
This town has three major railway crossings, all of which will be replaced with an overhead rail line. The existing railway station will also be replaced and a new one built to the east of the town. Further east is a new complex where 32 of 64 new Melbourne trains are stored & maintained. In some of the recovered space will be a small public hospital to ease the load on the major ones in the outer east. All done by 2024 allegedly.
Date & costs will inevitably blow out, of course.
With all those railway works plus the duplication of the southern section of a major (if somewhat neglected) arterial road, it’s going to be traffic hell. The duplication work is scheduled to end in 2025.
