A Lovely 10C Site!

Ten minutes away by mobility scooter is a hidden gem. It appears to be just a line of trees on top of a hill behind a fence but really it’s a former quarry, fenced off to prevent critters & folk from falling in. On the western edge is a fenced lookout revealing the treasures beneath. Theres a meandering footpath which can access the area from the north or south. Once inside & protected from any wind there’s a rotunda surrounded by trees, shrubs & lawn areas, beside a pond with a boardwalk crossing it. There’s lots of shade from a magnificent oak tree. On a corner of the boardwalk there’s a pair of low seats and a fenced-off viewing area. Past the pond at the north end is an area of reeds (and alas, blackberries) leading to the north exit to the park. Previously this would have been difficult for me to access because of the hills - my arthritic knee doth protest greatly when forced into such contortions. But now I have my late mother’s electric mobility scooter with a range allegedly of 50+km.
It’s so beautiful & peaceful, I shall use it in future as a place of quiet contemplation.

We thought it was our ability to love that made us human, but it turns out it was actually our ability to SELECT EACH IMAGE CONTAINING A BOAT.

Never seen petrol prices this high. However, I can save on consumption now I have my mother’s mobility scooter running properly: I had its two 12 volt, 50 Ah SLA deep-cycle traction batteries checked on a deep-cycle tester. One passed, lasting for 140 minutes under the particular load applied by the test. However the other battery gave out after only one minute. My options were to replace one 4-year old battery with a new one or replace both 4-year-old batteries, I chose the latter option, reasoning that there may be age related issues with using the older battery with a new one in the future leading to imbalances in battery performance. The batteries are wired to deliver 24 volts to the motors.
I rode the thing for 8.5 km today or just over an hour in total. The power indicator row of LEDs was showing the same level as the original faulty battery pack did following a very short ride of only 110 metres. So the claimed range of 50 km per charge is not unreasonable, not that I’m going to use it that way.
Other than saving on fuel costs with the car, I on’t need to take vitamin D meds as I’m getting plenty of direct sunlight on my exposed skin.

@matigo From October last year, Telstra, the Big Phone Company started removing the coin slots from public phones, having made all Australian calls free as the payphone division no longer contributes significantly to the bottom line.
Some booths are also wifi hotspots for Telstra broadband customers, any data usage being charged to the user’s home internet account.

Growing up on the farm with Mum a schoolteacher, we had a live-in housekeeper for 9 years until the early 1970s. In the last 20 years, we’ve fallen out of contact but one of my friends is her cousin’s son. I was able to contact him & his mother gave my phone number to the former housekeeper. She called a few minutes ago & I was able to give her Mum’s funeral details.

I was awake to observe the date & time as 22:22 hours on the 22nd day of the 2nd month of the year 2022.

Gone. My 91-yr-old mother’s suffering is over. She stepped on a a rainbow 35 minutes ago in the nursing home where she’d been a resident for the last 14 months.

Wasn’t paying attention when I bought a can of condensed milk. It’s the plant-based variant, consisting of sugar, water & rice & oat flours. Horrid filthy brown colour & just plain weird taste. I fixed it by adding a little more water then thickening the mess up with instanrt milk powder.
