You can’t use a can opener thar takes the entire top & rim off it, I tried. I had to fish out my Swiss Army knife with its excellent can opener. An opener that leaves the rim intact is fine, the only sharp edges are on the lid itself & there’s no point keeping that part.

A bonus is you wind up with a handy metal dish that’s really useful in a workshop for bits & pieces. Or useful while camping.

Canned steak & kidney pie cooed beautifully in the benchtop halogen convection oven. Recognisable & quite tasty bits of kidney in a meaty gravy. Expensive normally but this was a few dollars off normal price.

Pie for dinner. Fray Bentos Steak & Kidney pie in a can. The only piecrust is a disk of puff pastry on the top of the meat & gravy layer.

Any one of three criteria determine who gets immediate access to a 4th or 2nd COVID booster injection.
1: Over 65 years old.

2: Of indigenous origin.

3: Severely immunocompromised.

1: I’m under 65.

2: I’m a white boy.

3: Bingo! Finally found a suitable category.

Today I had a GP appointment, I planned to book in for a flu injection and a 2nd COVID booster shot.
The GP after other requests had been covered said "the flu is becoming rampant & I’ll do you now myself, three of our clinic’s nurses ore off sick at present.”
After removing four layers of clothing to reveal a bare upper arm (it’s winter) I received the flu injection in my right arm.
He then explained the clinic was no longer doing COVID injections but I could make a booking with a nearby pharmacy. He provided me with an official letter explaining my eligibility due to being severely immunocompromiused.
I was not able to book a shot at the pharmacy, or rather, I didn’t have to. After filling out a couple of forms I was told to wait on one of the three chairs on one side of the store. Within 10 minutes I’d had the injection, this time in the left arm, the theory being if there were to be any localised side-effects of either injection, I’d be able to tell which I’m reacting to. Thus far there have been no reactions.

We are 5 weeks into winter as it’s calculated in these parts. I had to leave a Zoom meeting early today, I was feeling really cold and shivering violently so I went back to bed at 12:30 pm, turning the electric blanket onto it's lowest setting. Things improved slightly but weren't really good until I wore a heavy jumper & beanie & set the bedroom heater to 19ºC - the room had been at 13º before doing this at about 5 pm.

Roll on 8 pm: the shivering had stopped, I removed the jumper & beanie & reset the heater to a maximum of 17ºC and turned off the electric blanket. I feel fine now.

Did you know that bees are actually allergic to pollen?

They break out in hives.
