Found an old battery-powered halogen table lamp in a disassembled state. It used to have a small 12-v lead-acid battery in its base but the charging circuit had fried when I fed the wrong power supply into it. So I rewired it to work from an external power source, such as the backup battery from a security system I no longer use.
There's an IR remote control for it somewhere & the brightness control no longer works, but the switch can turn it on & off.
So it's another source of illumination in blackouts, which are likely to be more prevalent when one of the state's oldest coal-fired power stations is decommissioned early next year. Wanker politicians say "there's a reduced demand once the vehicle manufactures shut up shop next year, so there won't be any blackouts."
I say bullshit to that theory.

Took the back off the G5 PowerMac to install new RAM. Removed a pair of 256 MB modules & replaced them with a pair of the new 2 GB ones. Computer failed to boot, this indicates a RAM problem. So I removed the new RAM & replaced the pair of 256s. It booted but didn't see the restored pair of 256s, only 6 of 6.5 GB registering. Me not understand. I'm giving up for the night, might tackle it tomorrow. It won't even boot at all now & all I've done is refit RAM.

I've stopped using beta versions of 1Password.
The Mini app that sits up on the menubar has been failing when needed. This stops the browser extensions from working and in turn forces the main app into trying to find the Mini app, which by now is intermittently appearing then vanishing from the menubar. No resets of the app or Mac restarts will fix this problem.
So I fully uninstalled it, leaving only the Dropbox sync stuff & the software licence on the Mac.
I installed the latest non-beta version & it's all OK, it detected both the licence & the Dropbox sync info.

@skematica Years ago I used to have VM Ware Fusion 4 on my MBP. I found the VM kept expanding in size to excessive levels. I'd initially start with 40 GB & it would frequently build up to around 70 GB before I fixed it by restoring to an earlier version via Winclone app.

Then I discovered the ability of Fusion to use a Boot Camp partition as the source of the VM. This stopped it from getting too big.

Mine is 66° in winter (heater setting) to 83° in summer (outside)

// @kdfrawg

@kdfrawg A few months ago, in the middle of winter, a friend was heading off to try fixing a client's computer. The client called to say he'd turned the heating up to 13°C especially for the visit. When asked what the previous temperature had been, he replied "8°C."
Had to have been born in a snow cave, I reckon.
