Why am I suddenly unable to reply to another user when I could a few minutes ago?
That was weird: most of my home wi-fi went down: it was fed by a recalcitrant FTTN broadband network over Ethernet. The 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz networks generated by the modem/router were not working at all, yet the connected VOiP phones were OK as was the other wifi network provided by my AirPort Express that connects to the router via Ethernet.
A manual restart of the router restored full service.
@matigo For exising customers only. Number portability can take up to 48 hours to process. Once done, you are an existing customer. Online recharge deal ends 5pm on Friday.
A carrier that resells 3G/4G mobile phone plans has a 1-year-Super Value pack available for existing customers. It's a prepaid service that costs just $249 and is available as a recharge option online until Friday March 3. You get unlimited local calls/SMS and a very useful 42 GB of data with a 365-day expiry period. That equates to 3.5 GB per calendar months. My spare phone, the Lumia 1520 is using that carrier. I'm very tempted.
My backup paranoia vindicated.
A Mac User Group member has finally updated her iMac from OS X Snow Leopard (10.6.8) to another with El Capitan (10.11.6). She wants to transfer her contacts from her old Time Machine drive to the new iMac. But because of past problems caused by Migration Assistant she will not use that process.
My (paranoid) process for the last 8 years has been to make a weekly archive (.abbu format) of my contacts list & store it in Dropbox. This is in addition to multiple Time Machine & Clone backups. Plus, I use iCloud across all my devices and back up the OS whenever a new version arrives.
Ergo, I always have a way to rebuild the contacts list should it be needed.
But Kathy's sole source of backup is a Snow Leopard Time Machine backup. I have told her of the process recommended by The Mac Observer to restore such info from her old backup.
Not buying that sort of fish fingers again. Cheap but with minced up undetermined fish varieties. Gonna get proper fillet bits next time.
@c Elevate the tank. Or mount it on a hill above the house. Or both. That's what my Dad did down on the farm.
