Flooring is done, I’ve moved maybe a third of the stuff than needs to go back. Speaking of such things, my back is getting sore from all this shoving of stuff about.

The flooring people have been and gone, taking the grotty old carpet with them and leaving me with Masonite with cemented surfaces that have to be dry before the adhesive for the vinyl imitation floorboards can be applied. They left at 12:30 pm saying I can walk on the surface in two hours but since they will only be wasting time if they wait here they’ve gone off to another job. They’ll be back to finish it tomorrow: it’s a cash job, so it’s in their interest to finish ASAP.

The U2 version of Monopoly is a bit different. The streets have no name.

Dear staff,

It has come to our attention that a number of you have responded to “RUOK”
day by telling co-workers that you are okay. This is deeply concerning.

The year is 2022. We have just lived through global lockdowns, there are two pandemics
raging, Europe’s at war, half the world is either flooding or in drought, billionaires are building
space ships for fun while you're all living off subsistence wages, and U2 is threatening to
tour again. Frankly if your mental health is not taking a battering right now, that’s extremely
worrying, and we'd encourage therapy to work through it.

In any case, if you really are happy and thriving right now, please keep it to yourself. Your
relentless 'this is fine' optimism in the face of society burning down around you is just
making the rest of us depressed.

Sincerely,
The HR department

A fine Spring day today. I visited my parents’ gravesite today to add some fake red roses to their headstone.
Then I sat on a convenient bench and cried…

An associate living in a nearby regional city spotted a notification of the death of someone with the same name as a Mac User Group life member who was also in that same city. The notification was for a different person of the same name as the life member.
So my associate contacted the life member via email asking about his health and how someone else of the same name had joined the departed list.
To his surprise, the life member’s son answered the email saying that his father had indeed passed on a few days earlier. So this is the convoluted route by which we learned of the passing of a well-respected former member.
Three current members of the Mac User Group will attend his funeral.

Had some potato wedges with dinner last night, I made up an interesting (and tasty) seasoning mix to go on the spuds. Equal proportions of chicken salt* and garlic powder plus the same volume of crushed and powdered nutritional yeast flakes. I had hoped for the yeast to be the dominant flavour and this proved to be the case.

I have an issue with a leaking skylight in the bedroom i use as a home office. My youngest brother examined it today and recommended removal of the external part of it, saying it only need a few concrete tiles to replace it. He’ll also replace the damaged ceiling plaster (aka drywall).

Sometime between August 1st & august 4th, I inadvertently deleted a desktop folder containing 2.93 GB of stuff. The Time Machine backup for Aug 4th didn’t show it but the one for Aug 1st did, so I restored it from that date.

UK: We call it Autumn, from the French word "autompne" and later, the Latin "autumnus.”

USA: We call it Fall because leaf fall down.
