On Friday my tumble dryer died, it's an old 2nd-hand one anyway. Only rotates the drum for about ½ a second. Then won't restart. I visited a couple of retailers, neither had the one I wanted in stock, they suggested I buy online which would include home delivery for $55 extra & I'd be stuck with disposal of the old one, unless I paid another fee of around $40. Nope. Not going there.

Bought online, then received an email saying nil stock in the warehouse, please wait a few working days, we'll get back to you when we find one. Was also given the option to cancel the order.

Tuesday morning: no response, I cancelled the order, was notified of pending PayPal refund.

Went hunting for that same unit elsewhere. I found an online-only retailer which had recently closed all 22 of it's showrooms to become an online-only enterprise.
Paid $3 less than the first transaction, the thing will be delivered sometime on Thursday. Free delivery; free removal of the old dead unit & free recycling of the new one's packaging.

Happy with that.

I was aware of the iOS client/Facebook tie-in. Thanks for the rest of the info.

I'm very impressed with Zoom, used it on Tuesday last week to join in a meeting. Then I sat in on a webinar about some of the more basic settings of the app. Webinars have the audience muted and can involve up to 10,000 participants.

I learned that a buzz cut costs ⅔ the cost of other cuts, apparently if scissors are needed that's a full price deal. I get the longest buzz cut, a number 8, which is one inch/25mm.

Just heard from a friend whose daughter works in the health field: two big racecourses in Melbourne are being set up as emergency coronavirus hospitals. Most likely to be staffed & run by the Army.

Hairdressers here are permitted, but customers can only be there for 30 minutes. No-one has thought that through. Still, if there's no queue 10 minutes is all I need for a buzzcut.

OK, they've removed that time restriction cos it's unrealistic. Salons are required to keep to the "one person per 4 square metre" rule.

I guess the hairdressers have to be gibbons with really long arms.

Small dogs tend to outlive large dogs but a considerable margin.

Visited the GP yesterday. I've had a cold or virus (no, not BigNasty19) for almost two weeks. Clinic only allows people in the waiting room if they don't arrive by car. Your car is your own personal waiting room. Phone the clinic upon arrival, the doctor will call you back asap and conduct verbal triage. In my case he said he'd be waiting in the corridor with a precautionary surgical mask for me.

The upshot is that if my cough worsens or I become short of breath, I go immediately to whichever of two Fever Clinics is open/most accessible at the time. Both are in the same suburb, one is 24-hr at the Emergency Dept of a regional Public Hospital, the other is 10am-6pm in a private hospital. If I go there I am to present myself for COVID19 screening on the basis of being immunocompromised.

State goes into shutdown in 2.5 hours, essential services only to remain open. Leisure centre will close, membership payments will be suspended for the duration. Medical clinic will stay open but patients are to wait in their cars and register their arrival by phone. When the doctor is ready he/she will call those patients in. screen shot 2020-03-23 at 09.29.50
