Fuck off, GMail Team. You say I’m not using the GMail app on my iOS platforms. I don’t care if it’s a “better” email experience. I USE MAIL BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS IN ONE APP RATHER THAN SCATTERED ABOUT LIKE A MAD WHORE’S AFTERBIRTH!
Men’s Shed has an ongoing project: renew/refurbish the numerous park benches throughout the retirement village where we rent our premises. A hardware store contacted us asking if we wanted some merbau https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intsia_bijuga timber which they have in the form of 15 foot-long pallets. That timber is perfect for the park benches so we snapped up the offer. One fellow fetched his chainsaw & 8 foot long trailer & a few of us went to get the stuff. The chainsaw is used to cut the pallets into lengths more suited to fitting in the trailer.
Next we had to get the nails & staples out of the wood, it’s really dry & the nails are stubborn. I used an angle grinder to shorten the protruding nails so they don’t bend when tapped back for later removal. It’s much quicker than snipping each one with pliers.
Amazing the difference a bit of Vitamin E cream makes to dry, flaky dermatitis-affected skin. Takes the itch away, too.
Mac User Group Treasurer was trying to print out a bunch of membership cards today and couldn’t get her printer to respond to her new MacBook Pro, so she asked for my assistance.
I went straight to System Preferences/Printers & Scanners and selected the 2nd of two listed printers & made it the default one. Problem solved.
@matigo Not very MacGuyver at all. I bought it off the shelf from an Apple Store.
@matigo I have the reverse of that problem: text replacements I no longer wish or need to use keep reappearing in both iOS & macOS despite having been deleted previously. It’s all to do with the central repository on iClod (sic) being inaccessible to the user.
My iPhone runs hot when used as a SatNav. What’s needed is a way of securely mounting it in the air conditioning air stream. I have goind the answer: a Belkin Car Cup Mount. The base expands to fit any size of cup holder, the grabbers on the phone holder are spring-loaded and the head can tilt through 90° & rotate to hold the device in portrait or landscape orientation. It’s ideal for my meeds.

A week on Saturday will be the 2nd anniversary of the purchase of the 21.5" iMac by the Men's Shed. It's been an absolute godsend as well as giving me something to do as I'm mostly useless at the normal type of hand-on shed activities.
Apple have release a supplemental update to 10.13. via the App Store update process.
Mainly security fixes, especially with the new APFS. https://www.macrumors.com/2017/10/05/apple-releases-macos-high-sierra-10-13-supplemental-update/
Also available as a direct download for updating multiple Macs, see: http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL1937/en_US/macOSUpd10.13Supplemental.dmg
Both my APFS (SSD) MacBook Air & the HFS+ (Fusion drive) iMac show the update in the MAS, so I'm doing the direct download.
@kdfrawg There's QuickLook plugins for that. Such as this one: https://macitbetter.com/BetterZip-Quick-Look-Generator/
Select the compressed file. Tap the spacebar once. I've been using a different one for many years, almost as long as QuickLook has been around.
