@hazardwarning My limited understanding of the salted caramel trend was as a chocolate enhancer.
Been trying to figure out why the Men’s Shed iMac’s screensaver was starting so soon after the last mouse/keyboard input.
Found out why today: screensaver had been set to start after one minute of inactivity. Now reset to ten minutes.
Tried cloning via the other T/bolt cable: failed. Write errors. Now checking status of Thunderbolt port itself. I have a T/bolt-to-USB 3.0/Gigabit Ethernet adaptor available, so I’ve connected the drive via the reliable USB 3 SATA interface and the clone process is yet to report errors. So it seems the Seagate GoFlex Thunderbolt/SATA adaptor I bought about 5 years ago is fuct.
I’d bought it to use with both the 2011 MBA & MBP computers I used to operate. Now the new iMac & used (one previous owner -Apple) 2014 MBA have USB 3 ports (plus Thunderbolt 3 on the iMac) so I don’t t really need the T/bolt/SATA adaptor.
You can’t get them any more, or not for any reasonable price.
Successful error-free clone made over USB 3 connection, kept reporting write errors when using the Thunderbolt cable & drive interface
No errors reported by SuperDuper! app, cloning process 67% complete. Seems the drive is OK.
Struck read/write errors on a Thunderbolt 1-attached SuperDuper! backup drive. I’ve has suspicions about the T/bolt cable for a while. Fortunately, for this Seagate GoFlex interface I also have a pair of USB 3 interfaces & a FireWire 800 adaptor, so I’m trying the backup clone again, this time on USB 3. Thus far, no errors reported.
I have another T/bolt cable somewhere so I’ll use a process of elimination to work out if it’s the other cable or the interface that’ Going wonky.
This arrived today from Amazon, sourced from UK. Took two weeks to arrive. Darts can be stored/carried fully assembled.
Further research suggests early 2012 retina MBPs should be avoided as they also experienced the lead-free solder problems. Now, Dale, do you need a 15-inch model? The 13-inch ones are also pretty good but never had quad-core processors.

@hybotics @streakmachine I go my elements confused re the solder in the 2011 MacBook Pro range. It is lead-free solder that was used, not tin-free as previously stated. I have updated that original blurb.
