@jextxadore Apple have released a new Lightning-to-USB adaptor with a Lightning in port so it's actually possible, using the USB-to-Ethernet adaptor, to connect an iPad via Ethernet. It supports a range of hgher-powered USB devices.
@matigo To get it onto the 2008 MBP I just copied the installer from another MBP over to the Applications folder via FireWire 800 in Target disk mode. Then restarted the old MBP & ran the installer as though it had been downloaded.
