2008 MacBook Pro has been retrieved. Updates and new apps applied, such as Toast Titanium 16. Waiting on completion of the Time Machine & Carbon Copy Cloner backups.
Until reading this article I was never happy to belong to the population subgroup unable to metabolise codeine into an effective painkiller.

Used Toast 16 on the iMac to join 5 downloaded YouTube movies into one & burn it to DVD. Then partway through I realised I’d not set the preferences for PAL TV system. When the DVD was finished I checked the preferences & it was PAL anyway. Now saving as a disc image for future use.
@matigo Before I put Mavericks on it, it liked to intermittently disconnect from its keyboard & trackpad, it hasn’t done that since the Mavericks install. In any case I keep a Bluetooth keyboard & magic Mouse with it, just in case….
I’ve run out of medication to combat the arthritis in my knee, so before it seizes up completely I should stock up. Hey, I won’t have to do that again until next year.
@matigo Better than ever. It has 6 GB of RAM & a new 240 GB SSD. Plus as it predates Unibody Macs, it has the proper keyboard. Nothing newer than El Capitan will run on it but that’s a good system.
Who woulda thunk it? I spotted the 2008 MBP in a pawn shop four years ago & bought it mostly as a hobby Mac. At the time I also had a 2011 MBP & a 2011 MBA. The 2011 MBP died & was replaced by a 4k iMac. Now the 2014 MBA that replaced the 2011 model needs a new screen, so the “hobby” MBP becomes the best one untilthe current Air gets fixed.
I just finished a quick three-minute wash/rinse at the local car wash using the Eezy Wash iOS (Android also available) app.
First you select the car wash location from the list. Next which service, be it auto wash, fragrance, vacuum, self-service bay or a vending machine. There’s no dog wash here.
Then choose the price/time interval. I just has a bit of dust to shift, so I opted for the $2/3-minute item.
After a 15-second pause three minutes appeared in the wash bay display. A receipt for $2 (18 cents tax) was also emailed to me.
Each individual machine in these car wash establishments has a relevant number. I’m parked beside vacuum 3 & I used self-service wash bay 2.
@kdfrawg It gets worse. Normally I use it with the duckhead attached to the power brick, this time I had the extension cord in operation. Can you guess what it landed on, inverted?
Yep, the power supply lying on the floor.
