Temporary citizens.

41 years ago one of my brothers was messing about (with permission) with the farm’s step-through Honda 90 agricultural motorbike and damaged a shoulder when he came off the thing in the paddock where all the volcanic rocks from other paddocks had been dumped.
Our parents were away on a rare weekend off, so we called the neighbouring farm & got him to the local hospital at a ridiculous pace for those narrow, windy roads.

Two months ago that same brother bought a 1980 Vespa scooter & came off it in his gravel driveway, damaging his other shoulder in the process. He’s had a successful operation to fix it.

I couldn’t help reminding him about his awkward relationship between shoulders & powered two-wheeled conveyances.

If we get her a new Apple Watch she could wear that all the time. It just needs to be tied into someone else’s iPhone account.

Thanks for the update, Larry. My condolences to your family.

Decision made. For $222 less than Apple’s recommended retail price, I’m getting a 2017 non-touchbar 13.3-in MacBook Pro. An office supply store has limited quantities available, and since there’s an outlet in this town I’ve gone that way.
I bought some Thunderbolt 3 & USB-C adaptors for the iMac but it can get by without them. They’ll be used until the 7-port Thunderbolt 3 hub arrives. This hub has 2 x USB 3 ports; HDMI for video; SD & microSD card slots, USB-C & Thunderbolt 3 pass-through for charging.
It connects to both of the Mac’s Thunderbolt 3 ports.
This is the model of Mac that Apple wants users to consider as the upgrade to a MacBook Air. For once I agree.

Since accidentally converting my MacBook Air into a MacBook Water yesterday I’ve been using a 12-in G4 PowerBook for everyday usage. A bit slow but it is 13 years old!

Sounds painful.

Two replacement options for the soggy 11-in MBA envisaged: 13-in non-touchbar MacBook Pro or 13-in MacBook Air; both with 8 GB RAM &256 GB SSDs.
Both are around $200 less than rrp, with a $390 price difference between the two.
ThePro is marginally heavier but physically smaller in all dimensions & has a Retina display.

If I can get a new 13-in MacBook Pro (non-touchbar) for the price I’m looking at, there’s a suitable multi-port adaptor available on Amazon for $33 delivered. That has HDMI (4k); SD & micro-SD reader; dual USB 3 ports & dual Thunderbolt 3 ports. It connects via both built-in Thunderbolt 3 ports.

There are three stores in this town that sell Apple gear. Only one has the $200 off.
The MBP that the other person claimed was priced at $1995. The one at the Office supplier is $1977.
