Visited a sheep milk dairy & cheesemaker yesterday. Wanted their award-winning blue vein sheep cheese, couldn’t see it anywhere in the displays. Turns out they only had very fresh or very aged versions, the aged one being sufficiently different to its award-winning version so it was renamed. That wass ½-price to make way for the new stock so I bought some.
Another cheese they do with a neighbour’s cow’s milk is called Granny’s Blue, but with one batch, the head cheesemaker & owner of the operation had an accident when taking it out of the mould & it collapsed out of shape. So that batch was renamed “Old Fart’s Blue” in honour of its creator & also sold at ½-price.
I also bought a pecorino flavoured with Aussie mountain pepper https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasmannia_lanceolata berries and a goat’s milk blue vein.
As I seemed pretty enthusiastic about their products they threw in, at no cost, a small wheel of brie.
All-in-all, a successful trip.
