@variablepulserate Seagate Expansion Portable hard drives have a poor reputation but their desktop drives are OK. My personal issue with Toshiba Canvio drives of 2 or 3 TB capacities is the interface between the case & the body of the drive itself, it’s not a standard SATA one, instead using direct contact between terminals on the bottom of the circuit board and the top of the drive itself. The other end is where my problem lies: it’s the horrid fat Micro USB 3 port on the drive body. They are prone to fail in such a way that a Micro USB 3 cable no longer connects but a Micro USB 2 cable (which fits in the larger of the two slots) will make connection, with a vastly-slower transfer rate.
Since upgrading my iMac from a 1 TB Fusion drive to a 1 TB SSD, I now have a spare 1 TB hard drive looking for a job.
