Takes a bit longer to boot up than it did when working from the ext FW HD, but once it's working, things happen a bit quicker.This is with a 333x CF card. I experimented with a 50x card using OS 9.2.2 (to proved the concept) before getting the 32 GB CF card.

No, not very fast at all. I cloned a 7 GB 10.4.11 install from a PATA ext HD to a CompactFlash card recently. The interface at least, was FireWire 400 on both the source & the destination devices, though. This was to get the G3 Pismo working from an ext FW-to-CF card reader. I wasn't silly enough to try doing that on the Pismo itself, the 2.3 GHz dual-core G5 PowerMac got that job.

I was getting double-vision when trying to read after watching YouTube videos on the iPod Touch for about 90 minutes. Text close-up with the reading glasses was difficult to read and my distance vision wasn't fantastic either. That was a bit of a worry, it's only been 12 months since my right eye had its cataract removed. That eye is supposed to have 20/20 vision, it was a long way from being that good.

So I went to bed in a darkened room for 45 minutes & now my vision is back to normal.

Phew.

@japchap 600 or 60?

I have a Pismo G3 PowerBook with a faulty HD interface. It boots fine from a 32 GB 333x CompactFlash card (essentially an SSD) via a FireWire 400 CF card reader. The max OS it can use is 10.4.11. Testing shows it boots up faster from an external FW HD but when actually running, the CF card is a lot snappier.

Got an email from an online store that's had trouble supplying me with a purchased item. "One of our associated suppliers will fulfil your back-order instead. It will be mailed today."
Please do. I received it THREE DAYS AGO. Send another if you like.

A story from my cousin in a country town four hours away by road: vandalism-related fire destroyed the only supermarket in the town two weeks before Christmas. Fifty locals became unemployed, including the son of a couple who run a plumbing warehouse business in the town.
They have voluntarily vacated their business premises & set up in a vacant building further out, leaving their previous locale available as a temporary supermarket. It's ideal for that purpose as it's 100 metres from the burnt-out store and has the required storage & car parking area.
The operators of the temporary supermarket have re-employed most of their previous employees & will be operating to keep them working & to keep the town supplied with groceries.
There's no space for the liquor store in the temporary premises but the shire-owned former public library building is being rented out to the supermarket operator as a replacement until the store is rebuilt.
Prior to that, a shopping bus to other towns within a 30 km radius was run twice-weekly.
Community spirit in action there. It's also a popular tourist destination so they'll benefit from the temporary store as well. Win-win.
