I'm really confused by the stance taken by the Committee of Management of our Mac User Group in refusing to make the monthly magazine available for download from the Club's website only and not from the membership-exclusive FirstClass BBS.

They're claiming some bunkum about security and "retaining intellectual control " but if anything, the FC BBS is more secure than the website, if only from an obscurity viewpoint.

This claim is a holdover from the CoM decision of the last two years, since it was under that administration that the magazine was made available as a colour PDF or a B & W printed issue.

There are quite a number of elderly members who are having trouble accessing the website because they've mislaid the username & password issued to them in late December of 2015. Yet these members have no problem with accessing the BBS.

It's quite easy to limit access to any part of the FirstClass to members-only, and the fact that only members of the Club can join the FC BBS, so any CoM claims of poor security simply do not hold water.

This current (new) CoM's President was the Secretary last year and may be mouthpiecing the stance of previous CoMs regarding this alleged security issue.

I am in a position to bring this to the attention of the current CoM as I'm one of it's members., but I'll have to employ an uncommon degree of tact lest I offend various other CoM members.

We really do need to get this problem resolved. One of the three FC administrators has confessed to me that he has been personally forwarding PDF copies to FC members having website-access issues.

It's all very confusing, really.
