According to the hospital nursing staff I have “wiggly” veins in my hands & forearms. The first attempt at sticking the cannula in failed when the needle went into the vein OK but snagged on the wall of an unseen “wiggle.” This produced much pain and a second attempt by another nurse was needed.
Nurse number one said she’d lost confidence so another volunteered to have a go on my other arm, this time in the back of the hand. He was successful in his quest & 55 minutes later the iron solution had gone in & been flushed through with a similar amount os saline.
I then tried to drive home.
Ha!
Friday traffic going west from the hospital was bumper-to-bumper. The other option was to head east in a he general direction of home. But at the top of the hill on the eastward route is a large secondary college whose inmates were being released at the end of the school week.
Traffic in three directions from the roundabout atop the hill was also chock-a-block. My phone’s navigation app said I should head north, then west, followed by north again before heading west and making a u-turn at another roundabout. This got me heading towards home on a busy main road.
I was starting to get drowsy, not a good combination in thick traffic on a wet road, so I ducked into a small shopping centre and had a coffee in a nice little café until the traffic had settled somewhat.
I’m very tired, probably from lack of quality sleep & not enough iron in my system.
Had my first Amazon Prime packages delivered this morning. I know was on the toilet when the three items packed into one box arrived, I heard the front screen door being opened: the arrangement if no-one is home is to put the items between the screen door & the wooden door if the package will fit.
But damn it, I was at home. The pricks could have tried ringing the doorbell.
I’ve had the iron infusion done. The most awkward part of the whole process was finding a parking space.
It will still take a couple of weeks before I start to notice any differences & longer again for it to influence any blood tests.
Been driving in some seriously filthy weather today, it’s really surprising how few vehicles fitted with rear window wipers actually use the things. You have to wonder if they even use the rear-view mirror.
Tried updating the Mem’s Shed iMac to macOS 10.13.6 last week but the Combo Updater I’d put on an ext drive was faulty & somehow incomplete. I did manage to get it to accept iTunes 12.8 though.
Today I used my newly-created TechTool Pro-To-Go drive which is on an 128 GB ext SSD to boot the Mac. I then copied Safari from the TTP drive to the Applications folder on the iMac. Next I opened the Combo Updater & told it to install to the iMac itself rather than the external drive. This it did & when it restarted, the process was a bit slower than usual but still faster than doing an update from the same drive.
The the Software Update section of the Mac App Store sat seeming to do bugger all. it was insisting that the Safari, OS & iTunes updates package needed applying, but I felt it shouldn’t be the case.
The internet at the Shed is supplied via a pocket WiFi on a 4G network that’s just not as fast or extensive as the network I have my phones connected to.
So I started internet hotspot on the Lumia 1520, it was a significantly faster connection & the App Store was then almost instantly able to deermine than the right updates had been done.
@variablepulserate What are your needs? If it’s optical zoom but not low light or action photography then maybe you’d consider the Nikon CoolPix 1000 with 125x optical zoom. https://www.cameralabs.com/nikon-coolpix-p1000-review/

@joeo10 May not be as bad as you report: https://www.howtogeek.com/358596/how-to-fix-blurry-fonts-on-macos-mojave-with-subpixel-antialiasing/

@variablepulserate How about a phone with a large photo sensor? I have two that are occasionally used, a Lumia 1020 (38 MP) & a Lumia 1520 (19 MP). Both have 2 GB of RAM but the 1520 uses a quad-core processor, which combines with the smaller image size to mean you don’t get the huge time between shots that’s so noticeable on the older 1020.

I just scored 8 out of 10 in an online quiz on what can & can't go into a municipal recycling bin.
The reason I "failed" the first two questions is because my municipal area is one of only four in the country that can process soft plastics such as frozen food bags.
I have notified the author of the quiz because I am a pedantic fellow.
