Base model with 256 GB/8 GB RAM & 1.2 GHz processor tests as 6773 (Multicore) on Geekbench 4, which is line-ball with the 2017 2.2 GHz i7 MacBook Air's score of 6803 under the same conditions.
I do believe such a configuration would be most suitable.
