My iMac connects via Ethernet because the broadband router/modem is directly behind it. But this means Location Services is disabled because that needs wi-fi. But activating wi-fi means you have two connections open, wi-fi & Ethernet, and I don’t imagine you’d get the full benefit from Ethernet in that configurstion.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you could connect to wi-fi for Location Services access but not for internet access? Well, Gary Rosenzweig over at Macmost.com has the solution. Visit https://macmost.com/how-to-use-location-services-on-your-mac-without-wi-fi.html to see how to achieve this miraculous feat.
