@streakmachine Be very wary of such things, I had a 2011 15.4" MBP 2.0 GHz i7 with 12 GB of RAM, it could take up to 16 GB.
The reason for caution is that model was the first to use lead-free solder & they got it wrong. Mine eventually died in August last year when the soldered connection between the motherboard & video card failed.
Apple's only fix was a motherboard replacement, which was offered free until Feb 2016. It was not a new motherboard, just a different one with similar failure potential.
