Gave the newer car a decent test run today, trying out all the driver aids and stuff like that. Did 430 km, the estimated range remaining for the 51 litre tank is 360 km. The trip was to a major (in Australian terms) inland city to visit my niece and involve a lot if stop/start traffic amongst roadworks. The “radar” cruise control and other settings meant that about all I had to do was steer the thing. I set the distance ahead to the next vehicle to 2 seconds of travelling time which it maintained regardless of whether I was doing 110 kph or just 12! I had to intervene with a bit of acceleration to start and had to set the cruise control speed in line with changes in speed limits but the autonomous braking took care of all of that. In addition it averaged marginally more fuel consumption the the older stick shift car, 6.9 litres per 100 km verses 6.6 for the other one.
This newer car is 40% heavier and 55% more powerful for a 33% increase in engine capacity. Very impressive indeed.
