About 13 years ago I spent too long in one position on a telephone exchange ladder, about halfway up, identifying circuits for the replacement of a lightning-damaged section of phone cable. The end result was permanent nerve damage to both feet, affecting the outer two toes on each foot, with the smallest toe even more affected.
In the interest of decreasing heating costs I'm finding I have very cold feet of late (it's the middle of winter) and those outer toes are mostly numb & quite uncomfortable. Last night before bed I bathed both feet in hot water & this alleviated the problem but another solution is needed. I've bought a pair of "heat bods" or extra thick cotton/polyester/elastane socks that are supposed to be five times as warm as cotton socks. And next week Amazon will deliver a pair of electrically-heated socks that run for about 5 hours on a pair of rechargeable AA cells (not included) - I have plenty of such cells.
I can't use the thick socks yet, they have to be washed before use for some reason.
