Done, new TV purchased and installed. If my car had been even 5mm narrower, the box would have to have been laid flat in the back, the retailer prefers where possible to stow them upright or near upright. There was just enough room behind the front seats for the thing to fit in. It was more of a struggle to get it out, actually. My dodgy knee wasn't an issue in this case.
The old HD TV was cheap and it showed with the incredibly poor speaker quality, a soundbar was needed for it to be usable when not connected to the AppleTV/HomePod combination.
No such issues with the new 50-inch 4k TV though. Its speakers are quite acceptable, which means I free up a power outlet in the lounge room but have to use another in the bedroom where that TV/soundbar combination now resides.
The old one is a "dumb" TV, the new one is what I call lobotomised, rather than Smart as I only connected it to the internet for setting up purposes. Now any smart or streaming features are handled from the Apple TV 4k, so the TV's Wi-Fi- has been disconnected and the Ethernet unplugged.
The next thing to do is not to advertise to passers-by that a new TV is nearby by breaking down the packaging, I use a Ryobi 4 volt cutter for such jobs. it struggled with this box because the cardboard was extra thick. That said, it's broken down now and taking up very little space in a recycling bin. the attachment shows the cardboard pieces with the cutter on top of the pile and my feet in the photo to give an idea of scale.
