My iMac connects to the world via Ethernet & phone cabling to a FTTN broadband service. But when thus connected, Location Services can’t find me because they need wi-fi. It’s comparatively simple in Network Preferences to turn the wi-fi on but not to automatically lock into any network. So the menubar’s wi-fi icon is greyed out but there’s enough happening for Location Services to work properly while maintaining a steady hard-wired internet connection that doesn’t get overridden by the wi-fi signal.
